Kyle Seth Hopkins, 22, of Marysville, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard in December following four years of duty based in Alaska and New Orleans. He served with the Special Forces unit, MASST, which handled drug interdiction and narcotics seizures beyond the nation’s borders. He was a 2003 Marysville High School graduate where he was involved in wrestling, track and weight lifting. Following graduation, he worked as a summer camp counselor at Marmon Valley Farms Horses. He enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, rock climbing, running, kick boxing and cage fighting and was previously involved with 4-H and showing horses. He attended Raymond Elementary School. He was born August 9, 1985 in Gallipolis and was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Frank and Martha Hopkins and maternal grandfather, Walter Peck. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Karen Peck Hopkins; a grandmother Joyce Peck of Marysville; a great grandmother, Beulah Gwilliams of Marysville; a brother, Ryan Hopkins, stationed with the U.S. Air Force in San Antonio, TX; aunts and uncles, Cheri Herriott of Marysville, Paula (Don) Bozzi of Westerville, Bill (Sherry) Peck of Patriot, Mike (Jenni) Peck of Zanesfield, Donna (Carl) Ross of Ironton, Joel (Karen) Hopkins of Ashland, KY and Terence (Glenna) Hopkins of Patriot; numerous cousins and many close friends, including Dan Hickey, Mike Gumbar, Jason Walker and Caleb Flipen. Calling hours will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services with Coast Guard military honors will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Burnside Family Life Center of Marysville First United Methodist Church. Rev. Steve Wood will officiate and burial will be at the Hopkins Family Cemetery in Patriot, Ohio.
